Lucky for me I'm spending the first few weeks of summer back at home with family and was able to recruit my mom to help me. (I'm 7 months pregnant so it was nice having the help!) Plus she has a great stash of supplies she's been accumulating for years.
The chair is versatile. When folded up and hung on the wall it creates an adorable organization caddy!
It includes:
- a basket for mail, letters, and miscellaneous items.
- hooks for keys, flashlights, etc.
- clips for hanging pictures, postcards, and more.
- a chalkboard for reminders or your grocery list.
You can also leave the seat folded down to house a blossoming plant or to provide extra seating!
Here is a before picture of the chair we started with!
We folded up the seat and screwed a wooden plaque to the under side.
We spray painted the entire chair with flat black paint. Then used a tea light candle to rub all the edges and corners.
Then we spray painted it again, this time using glossy white. Using an old rag, we rubbed off all the wax and it allowed the black to show through. This picture shows us centering and screwing the chalk board onto the wooden plaque on the under side of the seat.
The final steps were to add the hooks, clips, and basket. For the "Welcome" lettering we used a wall decal sticker. The majority of our supplies were things my mom already had.
I'm really in love with how the project turned out! As always, thanks for letting me share. I'd love to hear your feedback.

Super cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such great idea. I love the idea of it hanging on the wall and all the things you can do with it .
ReplyDeleteVery creative! Nice job.
ReplyDeleteVery creative! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow! you are so creative!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ashley!
DeleteThis is really good! Why do you rub the corners with the candle? So the paint won't rub off?
ReplyDeleteNo Holly, so that the paint WILL rub off! If you run in-between coats of different colors, then you are able to rub off and the under color shows through giving it an aged/distressed look.
DeleteWhat do you put on the paint to weather proof it?
ReplyDeleteI love it and I pinned it!
ReplyDeleteI love this project! So clever and cute!
