Decorating smart means buying something that's adorable and has more than one use, or buy something that you need that also could look like a decoration! Example: I have had a blank wall next to the sink that I have been itching to decorate. I have also had all of my long necklaces hanging on the side of the shower on ugly metal over-the-door hooks. They are always getting pulled on by my 2 year old and are the first thing you see when you walk in our bedroom.
Solution: Every time I go to Hobby Lobby I drool over the aisle that is full of knobs, pulls, and hooks. Living in an RV has kept me drooling and not buying. Where would I put them? And that is how the $5 Necklace Holder was born.
Supplies:
Wooden plaque, any shape (Joann's $0.60 each)
Knob or drawer pull (Hobby Lobby $3.99)
Paint
Brush
Sand Paper
Drill
Ruler
First things first, use a ruler and mark the center of your wooden plaque. Then, if your hubby isn't home, dig through his tools and locate a drill and a drill bit that is the same size as your knobs screw. Place your plaque on a scrap piece of wood and drill all the way through it. Use sand paper to smooth out any rough spots left after drilling. Paint any way and any color you would like!
I painted a coat of gold first, then after that was dry I painted 2 coats of light blue. After it was completely dry I sanded the edges just enough for the gold to peak through!
Finally screw your knobs to the front of your plaque, tightening the screw with a screw driver as needed. One of the joys of RV Life is the fact that you can not screw or nail anything to the walls. When we first moved in I screwed a coat hanger to the wall and I seriously thought my husband was going to have a heart attack! My favorite thing in this whole world (when it comes to decorating) are 3M Command Strips! They are freaking amazing! And no, I am not getting paid to say this, I just love them. For this project I cut one in half the long way, and used one half for each.
