September Jolt Basket

I recently stumbled upon a fantastic idea! At our house the kiddos do not do media until after dinner. They also do not play with their toys until after schoolwork! They have a hard time transitioning from toys /playing to school time. Which mean the mornings tend to get full of wrestling, arguing, and everyone grumpy. Plus they hate quiet time... so the delayed gratification of playing with their toys makes quiet time sound a little more enticing!

Why did I choose to Homeschool?

The Homeschool Why

This week we started our second year of Homeschool. This journey has blessed my life, and my family, in so many ways. But I do often have friends and family who assume that this journey started because of the current circumstances of the world. Of course, wearing mask and socially distancing at school definitely solidified my decision, there were actually other aspect involved.

Rainbow Playroom Pillow

Ok let's be honest.... my crochet stash is getting a little out of hand. Currently I use our guest bedroom as my work space. My loving and wonderful husband bought me an amazing ScrapBox for all my stuff. Everything has a spot and it closes up to hide everything.

Or its suppose to close... Right now EVERYTHING is overflowing to cover all the spaces, the closet is full of stuffed bins and yarn,  and its pretty hard to close up. Therefore the #yarnstashproject has been born!

Writing Crochet Patterns | Bobble Stitch Flowers

I am a very visual learner. Sometimes this means that I have to “see” a crochet pattern before I can do it. Whether it be watching a tutorial on YouTube or scratching it down on a piece of paper.

Bobble Infinity Scarf Pattern

My kids love wearing scarves during the Fall and Winter months! They also hate how easily traditional wrap scarves unwrap and fall off. So I wrote a crochet pattern for infinity scarves that I thought they, and other toddler/children would love!

Peek Infinity Scarf Pattern

I really love crocheting physical items for people to love, but I also really love writing my own patterns! I first learned this wonderful yarn art when I was a little girl. I slowly grew my knowledge and skill level though my teenage years, but didn't really make anything sellable until a few years ago.

HOW TO: Crochet a Magic Circle

The number one question I get asked from my blog and etsy shop is how to make a Magic Circle. It is  used in all of my Crochet Animal Patterns. Therefore, I decided the best way to answer this question was with a YouTube video! When I first stared learning and teaching myself to crochet, YouTube was my best friend. Anytime I came across a pattern that had a term of stitch that I did not know, fellow crocheters taught me through showing me.

I hope that this has helped you!! What should my next video tutorial be about?? Thank you for letting me share my love for crochet with you all.

Christmas Break 2017 | Hillcrest Pajama Train | Sequoia National Park | Pismo Beach

Christmas Break this year has been so much fun!! We made sure to fill it full of fun activities, family, love, and laughter! This year we were able to snag tickets to the very popular Hillcrest Pajama Train. We enjoyed train rides, hot coca, live music, Santa, and the whole place was lit up with beautiful Christmas lights and a story of Christ's birth.

Gingerbread House | Bucket List

I love Christmas time. At our house, we look forward to it all year long! Making Gingerbread Houses from scratch has always been on my Christmas Bucket List! This year I finally crossed it off and changed my mind about disliking Gingerbread Cookies.

My kids really love this Christmas activity. It will definitely stay a yearly tradition. Next year I will have to get really creative and make a Gingerbread Train or something!!

Now here is my super secret recipe....

Thanksgiving | Pismo Beach & Sand Dunes

We just can't sit still. My family and I live a very on-the-go and outdoorsy lifestyle. The entire time we have been married we have lived away from home, and so it involves a lot of traveling as well.

The weekend before Thanksgiving we drove to Arizona so that my hubby could be in a roping with his brother. It was so fun to watch! They did a great job.

Then after the recovery of sick kids, my husbands brother, wife, and kids, followed us back home! It was a few days full of playing hard, eating too much, and shopping until our feet and backs hurt. Thanksgiving dinner always tastes better when you are surrounded by love and laughter!

And because we weren't done having fun, we loaded up and drove to the beach! We headed straight to the dunes. There is nothing better than watching the sun set on the beach, over a campfire, while marshmallows roast, to the sound of the ocean waves. We stayed the night in a fun hotel with more beach views, and then headed back out as soon as breakfast was over!

My family runs on adrenaline. Being at the dunes, ocean views, kids playing endlessly, rzr and dirtribe rides, feet in the sand. It is truly our happy place.

Sparkles the Unicorn | Crochet Animal

Do you want to know my number one secret to reading and writing crochet patterns?? YouTube. It's a game changer! Any stitch you don't know or technique you haven't learned. I can 95% guarantee there is a YouTube video to teach it to you!! My number two secret, the more you crochet and follow patterns, the more things start to get repetitive.

I have been accurately (there were a few amateur years) crocheting for about 3 years now. After all that time of reading patterns, I can have an idea for a new project and think back to several different patterns and techniques that will make up my new idea. Don't get me wrong, there is always a period of trial and error when writing your own patterns, but that is what makes it fun! Starting with a simple thread of yarn and a hook and creating something beautiful.

Which brings me to my latest project! Sparkles the Unicorn.

I really enjoyed writing this patterns. It turned out exactly as I had envisioned it in my head. And because most of my followers are fellow crocheters, who look at beautiful things and desire to challenge themselves with creating it on their own, I have made this pattern available to BUY!
If you are not a crocheter, but still love this pattern, I sell Sparkles the Unicorn already made!

Sparkles was a huge hit at my latest Craft Show, which just made my creative soul so very happy!! Thank you all for taking a minute out of your day to learn more about me and my passion for crochet.

Recap | Life In Our Nomad | Etsy Shop

The last several months have been fantastic! I stepped away from Blogging for a little while. My son started Kindergarten and my baby became a toddler which means I reached a new level of Moming! Now that I have gotten into the swing of things, and learned how to juggle PTA meetings, soccer games, endless errands, pick-up and drop-off, toddler classes, etc. I'm ready to get back into the Blogging World!

In case you haven't been following me on Social Media, here are some of the new things i have been up to:
I've written several of my own patterns, and altered several more! (available for download HERE.)

I also found the perfect solution to make dress-up more simple for your little princess! These beautiful and fun Princess Aprons can make using your imagination and play time easier for everyone. The aprons are worn over clothing. This eliminates the frustration of undressing from your regular clothes and when switching dresses.

I also decided to change my logo! I have been participating in more craft shows, boutiques, and home parties. Therefore, there was a need for business cards and I wanted them to depict exactly what my Blog and Etsy niche is focused on.

As far as my main job, I have reached a whole new level! My oldest started Kindergarten and also turned me into a soccer mom on Saturday mornings. My baby became a toddler and gave a whole new meaning to stubborn, independent, terrible two's! And we bought a house!! Life has been full.

Free Crochet Pattern | Simply Squares Blanket | Baby Blanket

Crocheting is my favorite form of therapy. Plus I have the need to constantly have my hands busy. I can't just sit there watching tv or being a passenger in the car. This soft and huggable crocheted blanket features the Simply Squares stitch pattern.
*this post may contain affiliate links which help support my blog, small business, and family.

This gives a thicker and closer weave pattern than most crochet blankets. Simply Squares is my favorite baby blanket pattern because it gives more detail than just basic back and forth rows.

The pattern measures for a blanket approximately 40”X35”, but can easily be adjusted bigger or smaller. Just work in even numbers plus 1. This is a very simple pattern for beginning or novice crocheters! View pattern below or click HERE for the ad free/printable version.

Yarn - I use Caron Simply Soft 100% Acrylic Yarn - Medium Weight (4)
Crochet Hook size 5mm (my favorite are WooCrafts Ergonomic Crochet Hooks Set Ergonomic)

Ch 121.

Row 1. Hdc in the 2nd st from the hook. *Skip 1 st, then (sc, hdc) in the next st. Repeat from * across until 1 st remains. sc in remaining st, ch1 and turn.

Row 2. Hdc in first st.*Skip 1 st, then (sc, hdc) in next st. Repeat from * until 1 st remains. Sc in remain st, ch 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until desired length. On very last row, fasten off instead of the ch 1 and turn.

Blanket looks great as is, or you can add 2 rounds of sc as an edge. remember to add 3 sc in each corner.
