Grow your hair out FAST!

I have always envied women who have long beautiful locks of hair. I also have no patience and end up cutting my hair very soon after deciding to "grow it out". This time, however, I am determined to have long hair!

I've decided to share all the knowledge and tips I have learned through hours of searching and testing.

This was me at the salon in January of 2013:

I loved it! It was new, edgy, and very non-mom like. Before it was somewhat long and healthy, but I was ready for a change.

I really enjoyed it, but after a few short months I wanted my long locks back... so I decided I was going to grow it back out!! 4 months later I hadn't gotten very far.... These pictures were taken in April and my hair had grown less than an inch...

But I didn't give up! I kept getting trims and brushing it 100 times a day! I stuck with my normal routine of washing it every other day, shampoo and conditioner. Then I realized it wasn't growing at all, so I started doing some serious research...

The picture above was taken in July and as you can see my hair had grown only 2 or so inches in 7 months. That's not very much!!! Then I came across a Pin on Pinterest called
It is the method of NOT using shampoo or conditioner on your hair. At first I was kind of grossed out by the fact of not washing your hair... But that's not what this is! You simply replace oil stripping detergent (shampoo) and chemical oils (conditioner) with natural products. When you shampoo your hair, it is using chemicals to strip away all the dirt and oil from your hair. Including the natural oils that your scalp produces. Therefore you have to preplace those oils with chemical oils that are found in conditioner. Because you are stripping those natural oils away your scalp is working overtime to try and reproduce them, which leaves you having to shampoo your hair every day to keep those oils under control!

As you can see we are putting our hair through a very vicious cycle. So in September of 2013 I decided I was going to start the No Poo Method! This involved replacing shampoo with a baking soda and water mixture and replacing my conditioner with a apple cider vinegar and water mixture. (Visit Leah's SITE to learn more) As the site warns, my hair was SUPER greasy for about 6 weeks. My poor hair was so use to over producing its own natural oils to compensate for shampoo that it took some time for it to realize it didn't need to anymore. I wore it up and used baby powder to help. Once my hair was use to the routine it began to look amazing! Shiny, bouncy, no frizz, and started to grow very fast! And because my hair was using it's natural cycle of producing oils I only have to wash it once every 4 days! Don't get my wrong, I shower all the time, I just don't wash my hair every time a shower. After about 4 months my head started to feel very itchy so I switched to using an all natural, chemical and dye free shampoo. But NO conditioner still. My hair still looks and feels amazing! I have been able to grow my hair 6 inches in 8 months!! This method has more than tripled the growth of my hair! Here is a picture of it today...

PS: I also try to keep from damaging my hair by following a few other tips I've discovered.

1. Instead of using my towel to dry my hair, I use a cotton t-shirt. I put my head through the neck hole the wrong way, flip my head upside down over the tub and use a shower comb to GENTLY comb through, then wrap the body of the shirt around the wet hair into a loose bun on top of my head.

2. I let my hair air dry 75% of the way before using my blow dryer.
I also use my blow dry on low heat and low blow!

3. I try not to use product in my hair. No root pump, mousse, gel, etc. Occasionally I use a little bit of hairspray when I'm wearing my hair up to tame fly aways, but for the most part I like to keep it natural =)

3. Use all curling irons, straigners, etc on low heat! Or don't use them at all!! I have discovered dozens of ways to style my hair using no-heat options. My favorite is to shower in the evening and then sleep with my hair in 3 French braids. I always wake up with really fun waves!

4. No teasing or backcombing!!

5. Love your new and beautiful locks!!

If you have any questions, suggestions, or if this worked for you, I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to comment below or send me an email! Thanks!!

  1. This works great! I have been doing this for about 4 years now! I love it! When I get that itchy feeling I wash my hair with conditioner only instead of the shampoo. I make the conditioner sometimes and other times I am lazy and purchase it. Your hair looks wonderful! :)

  3. I have slow growing hair but psoriasis of the scalp so use a melaleuca oil shampoo every other day and spritz with a chemical free spray on detangler/conditioner (on the hair only) every couple days to control my crazy curls. TI can't do the no poo as my head will itch too much!

  5. I switched to an organic shampoo and conditioner and my hair looks and feels much better. I tried that no poo method after seeing it on pinterest but only lasted about 10 days with it - I didn't like how my hair looked when trying that method - that is when I tried the organic shampoo. I also agree with the air dry thing and try and do that as much as possible. Lots of great info here - pinning.

  9. Thanks, Adreanna for another great post. I need to try a few of these tips to see if it will help my fly-away hair. I go one way, my hair goes another! My hair is just the length I want it to be now so I probably won't be cutting it for a while but when I do, I have bookmarked this article to help me through the trauma of "The Cut!"
